We have had a
wonderful start in 2008 with the new Jumper Playday
event for the Santa Ynez Valley Equestrian
Association. Our first was held January 12th
and the second was on March 8th.
We had twelve folks show up for the January playday,
and we really lucked out with the weather. The only
clear weekend in the entire month! Vikki Hunt
designed a course that had hunter lines and some
jumper suggestions that were quite fun to jump
through.
She came back again
in March to present a course that 28 riders came to
jump, lots of green riders and horses got some good
quality time in the ring.
These Playdays are
designed as a no pressure opportunity for riders to
practice showing and young horses to school.
Trainers are allowed in the ring to help their
student have a successful round. That is the
goal, to do what is necessary to have a good
experience for all involved.
Rides begin with poles on the ground and will go up
on a time schedule.
If there is enough
interest, riders may be able to convince the show
management to hold a Jumper Jackpot. But that
remains to be seen.
Helmets and boots are required, but show attire is
discouraged. And everyone
should provide at least one VOLUNTEER! There
is A LOT of work that goes into setting the course
on Friday evening, and changing courses on
Saturday. We would like to minimize the down time
so everyone can have enough time to jump as much as
they like. And putting everything away is a chores
best shared . . . !
The entry fees are $7.00 per round, and you have
2:30 minute time frame. This is all about
experience, education, entertainment, and fun . . .
for horses and riders . . . and spectators alike!
Entry forms will be
available on-line by the 10th, check
back!
